Patna, August 2: In a startling incident in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district, a data operator openly demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 in front of a minister. The minister, Lakhendra Paswan, promptly contacted district officials to terminate the operator’s services.
The situation unfolded when several individuals approached Minister Paswan, seeking assistance regarding the non-disbursement of government grants and the demand for bribes. While at the minister’s office, one complainant directly called the data operator in question.
During the call, the operator made the bribe demand, all while the minister listened in. Upon hearing the request, the complainant ended the call, prompting Minister Paswan to take immediate action.
Paswan contacted the district welfare office in Sitamarhi to gather information about the operator, identified as Chandan Kumar. He discussed the victims’ issues and firmly instructed that the operator’s services be terminated immediately. Furthermore, he mandated that a suspension order be issued within the next hour.
Victim Lalendra Kumar confirmed that the operator had indeed solicited a bribe in front of the minister. Following this, the minister ordered a thorough investigation into the operator and other officials potentially involved in similar corrupt practices. He also spoke with the Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police to ensure a re-examination of the case.
Reports indicate that this incident is linked to the SC/ST Act. There had been violent clashes and stone-pelting in the Sonbarsa area of Sitamarhi, leading to an FIR being filed. Victims were supposed to receive government assistance, but the data operator was allegedly demanding bribes in exchange for the funds.
