Bihar Government Orders Judicial Transfers; Asitabh Kumar Appointed Chief Judge in Nalanda

Patna, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Bihar government has initiated an administrative reshuffle within the state judicial service, announcing a series of judicial transfers and promotions. On September 15, the General Administration Department released a notification aimed at enhancing the efficiency of district court operations.

As per the notification, Asitabh Kumar, who previously served as the District and Additional Sessions Judge in West Champaran (Bettiah), has been promoted to the position of Chief District and Sessions Judge. Following his promotion, Kumar will take on the role of Chief Judge of the Family Court in Nalanda, with its headquarters located in Bihar Sharif.

This administrative decision stems from a recommendation made by the Registrar General of the Patna High Court on September 7, 2026. In response to this recommendation, the state government completed the necessary administrative procedures and issued the formal posting orders.

The notification, signed by Rajneesh Kumar, Additional Secretary of the General Administration Department, was issued in the name of the Governor of Bihar. It instructs the concerned judicial officer to assume their new responsibilities in accordance with established procedures.

Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Superintendent of the Government Press and the e-Gazette Cell of the Finance Department for publication in the next extraordinary issue of the official gazette. The information has also been disseminated to the Accountant General (Accounts and Eligibility), the Law Department, District and Sessions Judges of the relevant districts, and officials from the Finance and Information Technology Departments for necessary action.

In a related development, the Bihar Police Headquarters has also announced extensive transfers within the personnel and welfare division, aimed at strengthening administrative arrangements. Under this order, 112 promoted Reserve Inspectors (Senior Quartermasters), also known as Sergeant Majors, have been reassigned to new districts and units. This move follows an earlier directive from June 2026, which had granted Reserve Sub-Inspectors (Quartermasters) executive charge of the higher position of Reserve Inspector (Senior Quartermaster). However, discrepancies between the availability of officers and sanctioned posts across various districts and units prompted this latest decision to address the imbalance.
