Bihar Government Mandates SDO Approval for Wedding Ceremonies Amid LPG Concerns

Patna, April 10: In response to the ongoing global petroleum crisis and rising concerns over LPG availability, the Bihar government issued a significant directive on Thursday. This new regulation aims to control fuel usage during weddings and social events.

According to the recent notification, obtaining prior approval from the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) is now mandatory for organizing weddings, tilak ceremonies, and other public gatherings in the coming months.

The Bihar government has implemented strict guidelines to ensure the proper use and availability of LPG. Before hosting any wedding or social event, it is essential to secure permission from the SDO.

Applicants must submit a copy of the wedding invitation along with their application, detailing the expected number of guests and the required number of LPG cylinders.

The use of commercial LPG cylinders is now compulsory, while the use of domestic cylinders for such events is completely banned.

The SDO will evaluate the applications and estimate the demand. Based on this assessment, oil companies will supply commercial cylinders proportionately.

The allocated commercial gas must only be used for the approved event. Law enforcement agencies will closely monitor these events and take strict action against any violations of the regulations.

To streamline LPG supply during the peak wedding season starting April 15, the state government has devised an organized process.

As per the provisions, cooks and caterers are required to register for commercial LPG. Oil companies have been instructed to complete the registration process within five to seven days.

The state government has observed that domestic LPG cylinders are often misused during large events, leading to shortages in households.

Given the potential disruptions in supply due to global issues, particularly in West Asia, the state government aims to prevent LPG shortages, ensure proper distribution, and avert any crises during the wedding peak season.

Officials emphasized that this initiative seeks to prevent inconvenience to the public during the upcoming wedding season while ensuring a seamless supply of LPG for both households and event organizers.
