Patna, April 9: The border districts of Bihar are witnessing a significant acceleration in the management and security of the India-Nepal border, alongside the implementation of the Vibrant Village Program. Modern technology and joint surveys are being utilized for the maintenance and verification of border pillars.
Currently, 1,237 pillars in East Champaran and 358 in Madhubani are under regular monitoring. In Kishanganj and Sitamarhi, field survey teams are taking necessary actions to repair damaged or missing pillars. The repair work for all damaged pillars in Supaul district has been completed. Following a review of border management and development activities, district administrations in East Champaran, West Champaran, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Kishanganj, Supaul, and Araria shared a significant progress report on Thursday.
During a meeting chaired by Bihar’s Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, it was reported that an anti-encroachment campaign is underway to secure the border, particularly in the ‘No Man’s Land’ and within a 15-kilometer radius of the international border. All 186 identified illegal structures in Madhubani have been demolished, while all 34 encroachments in Kishanganj have been removed in the past month. In West Champaran, 261 out of 272 encroachments have been cleared, with coordination ongoing with Nepali authorities for the remaining cases.
In a crackdown on crime and counterfeit currency, ten individuals were arrested in East Champaran with 18,500 Indian and 2.5 million Nepali counterfeit notes. Additionally, 4.9 million Nepali and 20,100 Indian counterfeit notes were seized in Sitamarhi. Authorities have also made several arrests in Madhubani and Araria, dismantling interstate gangs involved in creating fake identification and Aadhaar cards.
Security agencies are closely monitoring illegal immigration, resulting in the arrest of foreign nationals from Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, China, and the United States. The meeting also highlighted the selection of hundreds of villages for comprehensive development under the ‘Vibrant Village Program-II.’
