The statements were recorded separately in front of the commission’s head, retired Justice Vinod Kumar Sinha. After giving their testimonies, the victim’s father, Kashinath Tiwari, spoke to reporters, stating that he had informed the commission about everything that transpired on the day of the incident.
He mentioned that the police had taken them to the station and kept them there throughout the day. Kashinath Tiwari recounted the sequence of events as he experienced and understood them.
When asked about the progress of the investigation, Kashinath Tiwari said the commission informed him that the inquiry is ongoing and expressed hope for fair action based on the findings.
The victim’s mother, Asha Devi, also appeared before the commission to present her account. She stated that she shared everything she personally witnessed and experienced, including details about the police officers she suspected were involved in the case.
According to Asha Devi, the commission questioned her in detail for nearly an hour to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. She raised several concerns, including the arrest of the accused police officers, information regarding a mobile phone related to the case, and her worries about the investigation.
The commission informed her that all relevant individuals and witnesses would have their statements recorded first, after which further action would be considered based on the collected evidence.
Expressing hope for justice, Asha Devi stated that the outcome would only be clear after the inquiry process and questioning of all witnesses were completed. She noted that other family members have also been summoned to testify before the commission.
The judicial inquiry commission, established by the Bihar government, is investigating all aspects of the Bharat Tiwari encounter case. The commission is recording witness statements in phases.
In the coming days, statements from other family members, involved police officers, and additional witnesses are expected to be recorded before the commission reaches any conclusions.
Social activist Ravi Bhardwaj expressed concern for the safety of Bharat Tiwari’s family during a press conference held at the Aam Aadmi Party office. He claimed that the family is living in a climate of fear, with suspicious activities reported around their home. Bhardwaj alleged that special security arrangements had to be made to ensure the family’s safety.
During the press conference, he stated that Bharat Tiwari came from a humble background and that his actions aimed to draw the government’s attention.
Ravi Bhardwaj also mentioned that discussions have taken place regarding a meeting between the family and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with hopes for a date to be set soon. According to him, the family will have the opportunity to present their concerns to the government.
He announced that a protest would be held at Jantar Mantar on Sunday regarding this issue. Bhardwaj stated that if no concrete assurances are received from the government during the demonstration, they would reconsider their strategy.
He also revealed that Bharat Tiwari’s parents and their associates have decided not to disclose their future plans for the next two to three days. Bhardwaj emphasized that the family is currently in deep sorrow, prioritizing their safety and the demand for justice.
