Beijing, August 14: Recently, several Western media outlets and think tanks have exaggerated the so-called ‘China Squeeze Theory.’ They claim that China’s industrial exports are diminishing its space in the global market and affecting the industrialization processes of developing nations.
In response, Adam Tooze, a historian at Columbia University, published an article explaining that the ‘China Squeeze Theory’ is not based on economic data analysis but is entirely driven by political ideologies, labeling it a “complete deception.”
According to Professor Tooze, the Western narrative surrounding the so-called ‘China Crisis’ over the past decade is fundamentally an attempt to blame China for various issues. China is held responsible for the decline of American industrialization, Europe’s industrial stagnation, and the obstacles faced by developing countries. The strategy of disinformation remains unchanged: think tanks create concepts and release reports, followed by media coverage that amplifies the narrative, after which politicians seize the opportunity to exaggerate the claims.
Professor Tooze asserts that the allegation that “China deprives other countries of industrialization opportunities” is a propaganda campaign aimed not at “normalizing the world” but at portraying “China as a pariah,” which reflects a “factually contrary worldview.”
