Beijing, August 14: The Chinese State Council’s News Office held a briefing on Thursday, highlighting the progress in creating a beautiful China.
It was reported that the ecological environment quality in China is improving. From January to July, the PM 2.5 density across the country decreased by 1.8 micrograms per cubic meter compared to the same period last year, marking a decline of 6.2%. The proportion of days with good weather increased by 3.9% year-on-year.
By the end of July, the total trading volume in the national carbon emissions trading market exceeded 930 million tons. This has promoted green and low-carbon transformations at a lower cost.
The 15th Five-Year Plan period is crucial for reaching peak carbon emissions. The Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment will enhance efforts to tackle climate change in five key areas. First, the promotion of green and low-carbon transformations in major sectors will be intensified. Second, the development of the national carbon market will be accelerated. Third, improvements will be made to the carbon emissions statistical accounting system. Fourth, resilience to climate change will be advanced, and fifth, international cooperation in combating climate change will be strengthened.
