UN Appoints Chinese Snowboarding Champion Su Yiming as Sport for Land Champion for Resilience

Beijing, August 14: The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) announced on August 12 that Chinese snowboarding champion Su Yiming has been appointed as a ‘Sport for Land’ Champion for Resilience.

The UNCCD stated that this appointment recognizes Su Yiming’s inspiring journey and his efforts in empowering youth through sports. It also acknowledges his impact on building resilience both on and off the field.

In his new role, Su Yiming will collaborate with the UNCCD to enhance the involvement of youth and sports communities in land conservation. He will advocate for the understanding that resilience stems not only from determination and resolve but also relies on protecting the natural environment that sustains life, livelihoods, and sports.

The health of winter sports is dependent on healthy mountains. Su Yiming expressed that the mountains have given him the opportunity to pursue his dreams. He emphasized that nature conservation is essential for securing the future of children. He urges every young person to become a guardian of their land.
