New Delhi, August 14: The central government has made a significant decision to enhance road connectivity in Uttarakhand. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the approval of ₹297.37 crore for the widening and strengthening of nine roads spanning 235.42 kilometers in the state. This initiative will be executed under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Gadkari stated, “A total of ₹297.37 crore has been approved for the widening and strengthening of nine roads in Uttarakhand under CRIF, covering a length of 235.42 kilometers.”
With this approval, travel in Uttarakhand’s remote and hilly areas is expected to become easier. Many roads that often close during the monsoon and winter seasons will be constructed with improved quality, facilitating smoother transportation and quicker access to emergency services.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to the central government for this announcement. He wrote on ‘X’, “Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the commitment of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Uttarakhand is consistently setting new benchmarks in connectivity.”
He further added, “This approval will undoubtedly strengthen road connectivity in the state. Travel in hilly areas will become easier, and it will also give a new impetus to tourism, trade, and the local economy. Thank you for continuously accelerating Uttarakhand’s development journey.”
CM Dhami noted that better roads will promote tourism in the state. Access to pilgrimage sites like Char Dham, Hemkund Sahib, and other religious destinations will be facilitated. Additionally, it will assist in delivering local products to markets, directly benefiting farmers and small traders.
The Union Minister emphasized that this project is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘Developed India 2047’. Strengthening infrastructure in hilly states is a government priority. The nine roads approved under CRIF will not only ease traffic but also create new employment opportunities in the region.
