Ranchi, August 14: Rakesh Ranjan, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ranchi, Jharkhand, stated that the student protest during the assembly siege on August 10 was peaceful. However, a group of around 500 unidentified individuals infiltrated the gathering, causing disturbances. Following a thorough investigation, an FIR has been filed against these unidentified troublemakers.
Ranjan emphasized that no student has been named as an accused in this case. He reassured peaceful protesters that they need not worry about the FIR.
The SSP noted that a significant number of students were demonstrating peacefully. Unfortunately, some unruly elements joined the crowd and created chaos, attempting to disrupt police security measures and disturb public order.
He mentioned that the police have initiated action based on video footage and other available evidence related to the incident. The FIR specifically targets unidentified individuals, and the police will use the footage to identify those involved in the disturbances.
Ranjan clarified that merely being present at the protest or participating in it will not lead to action against any student. The police aim to identify the actual perpetrators of the unrest. On August 10, a large number of students marched to the assembly to demand a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the JPPSC and JSSC examinations.
He also noted that tensions escalated after clashes between protesters and police near Jagannathpur Temple. Reports indicated the use of tear gas, water cannons, and baton charges by the police, resulting in injuries to both officers and demonstrators. An FIR has been registered at the Assembly police station regarding this incident.
