Ranchi, August 14: In a significant protest, Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, visited Sakaldeepa village in the Panki constituency of Palamu district on Thursday. He condemned the horrific incident involving the rape of a minor girl from the tribal community and the alleged abduction of her two sisters, who were reportedly held captive for months.
Marandi met with the victims’ family to gather details about the incident. He later addressed a protest gathering in Fulwariya village, questioning the state’s law and order situation.
He highlighted that only five or six tribal families reside in the village, while the majority belong to a different community. The account provided by the victim’s family is deeply distressing. The rape occurred in February, and after the perpetrator was apprehended, the accused’s relatives began threatening the victim’s family. Subsequently, two girls were forcibly taken to Ranchi and other locations, where they were held for months. “Where is the rule of law? What kind of terror exists here?” he asked. Marandi urged the administration to conduct a fair investigation and take stringent legal action against the offenders.
He emphasized that no individual or group has the right to interfere with another’s religious or social identity, lifestyle, or culture. Allegations were made that the victim’s family faced pressure regarding their daughters’ attire. “Such coercion cannot be accepted,” he stated.
Marandi called for the administration to ensure the safety of the victim’s family, asserting that actions against the culprits should restore their faith in the law. He insisted that crimes committed by individuals from any community must be addressed.
He appealed to all societal groups to condemn such crimes and maintain distance from the perpetrators. The protest was attended by several dignitaries, including Chatra MP Kalicharan Singh, Panki MLA Shashibhushan Mehta, BJP state secretary Manoj Singh, district president Amit Tiwari, and various party officials and workers.
