Penguin India Refuses to Publish Sonia Gandhis Autobiography Belonging

New Delhi, August 28: Penguin Random House India has declined to publish Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s autobiography titled ‘Belonging’ in India. In response, Sonia Gandhi has accused Penguin India of disappointing authors whose works do not align with the central government’s preferences.

Penguin Random House India issued a statement clarifying, “In response to reports regarding Sonia Gandhi’s book ‘Belonging’, Penguin Random House India is not the publisher of ‘Belonging’ in India. It is incorrect to state that the decision not to publish ‘Belonging’ was due to the author’s refusal to accept editorial changes.”

The publisher emphasized, “As a publisher, it is both our right and responsibility to verify facts and advise authors in ways that best serve their books. This is a standard part of the publishing process. Throughout discussions, Penguin Random House India’s stance was that we were ready and willing to publish the book. We will not comment further on the confidential conversations with the author.”

Sonia Gandhi took to social media platform X to allege, “Penguin India has repeatedly disappointed authors whose work is not favored by the central government. Some cases are public, while many others remain undisclosed.”

She also released a poster featuring the phrase, “Is it Penguin or a caged bird?” On August 22, she shared the book’s poster, stating, “A story of love. A life of courage. A legacy of strength.”

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi posted on X on August 20, reflecting, “Mom, the last time I saw you and Dad together was over 35 years ago. Since that day, I have witnessed how bravely and gracefully you faced every challenge. Only Priyanka and I truly know what you have endured and how difficult life has been since Dad’s passing.”

Rahul Gandhi expressed, “I am happy and proud that your story – ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’ will finally be read by the millions who love you. I know how challenging it must have been for someone who prefers a private life to share such a beautiful story with the world.”
