Mumbai, August 28: Rajasthan police have successfully solved the murder case of an elderly couple in Punawali village, located in the Saira police station area. Authorities report that the crime was committed with the intent to rob the couple.
The mastermind behind this heinous act has been identified as their neighbor, Kushal alias Khushi Paliwal. Police have arrested five suspects, while a sixth individual is currently in custody. The vehicle used in the crime has also been recovered.
According to District Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan, the victims, Laharlal Paliwal and his wife Radhabai, resided in Punawali. On the night of August 11, their son, Manohar Lal, who lives in Gujarat, spoke with Radhabai over the phone. When the couple was not found the following day, relatives and others began searching for them. Their bodies were discovered on August 14, hidden inside a box in their home.
Investigations revealed that Kushal had been planning this crime for about a year and a half. He had taken loans from various individuals and banks and was struggling to repay them. Facing financial difficulties, he decided to target the couple, knowing they often stayed alone and kept cash and jewelry at home. On August 9, Kushal arrived in Punawali with accomplices Chandan Yadav, Vikas Kharwad, and Dilip Chaudhary.
Reports indicate that they conducted reconnaissance of the couple’s home and the surrounding area. They later traveled from Gogunda to Panario Madri. On their return, they stopped at a hotel near the Gogunda toll plaza, where they finalized their plan.
Kushal also involved his cousins, Kishan Paliwal and Jeevan Paliwal, in the conspiracy. On August 10, Kushal and Chandan returned to Laharlal’s house. Being neighbors, they were allowed inside, and Radhabai even offered them food. During this visit, Kushal concealed a hammer he found in the house beneath his clothing. However, noticing activity around the house, both men left.
On the morning of August 11, Kushal and Chandan returned but found the door locked. Later that night, Kishan and Jeevan entered the house under the pretense of astrology. At that time, Laharlal was upstairs.
According to police, the two distracted Radhabai, allowing Kushal to sneak inside and hide in the bathroom. Kushal then messaged Kishan and Jeevan to leave. Late that night, he opened the door for Chandan, Dilip, and Vikas.
Police reported that the suspects then went upstairs and struck Laharlal on the head with the hammer, killing him. Radhabai was strangled to death.
Afterward, the assailants placed both bodies in plastic bags and concealed them in the bed’s storage compartment, covering them with bedding. Using Radhabai’s keys, they opened the cupboard and stole jewelry and cash. They also took the couple’s mobile phones and later discarded them on the highway.
Investigators believe the suspects attempted to stage the scene to make it appear as if the couple had left home voluntarily. During the investigation, police analyzed the call records and location data of the deceased couple’s mobile phones and questioned local residents.
Technical analysis and other investigative details eventually led authorities to focus on a suspicious vehicle. Police noted that this vehicle was seen in the area on the nights of August 9-11 and again on the morning of August 12, with its presence also recorded at the Kherwada toll plaza.
Based on information about the vehicle, police expanded their investigation and uncovered Kushal Paliwal and his accomplices’ involvement.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Kushal alias Khushi Paliwal (26), a resident of Punawali currently living in Surat; Chandan Yadav (27), a resident of Samastipur, Bihar, also living in Surat; Dilip Chaudhary (30), a resident of Surat; Kishan Paliwal (21), a resident of Punawali; and Jeevan Paliwal (21), also from Punawali.
