
Beijing, August 16: China is poised to make a significant leap in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. The focus has shifted from merely developing industrial robots to creating humanoid robots capable of thinking, learning, and performing various tasks in real-world scenarios.
To achieve this ambitious goal, Beijing is rapidly developing a comprehensive ecosystem for research, training, manufacturing, and commercial use.
The Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center in Beijing plays a crucial role in this endeavor. It features realistic environments such as homes, supermarkets, offices, hospitals, and industrial units where robots are trained to perform everyday tasks.
For instance, robots are taught to pick up objects, place them correctly, and repeat these actions in different situations. During training, the position and order of items are constantly changed, ensuring that robots learn to make decisions in various contexts rather than just memorizing a single process.
Experts believe that the biggest challenge in developing humanoid robots is collecting high-quality real-world data. While large language models can learn from vast text resources available on the internet, robots must learn to interact with objects and environments in the physical world. To this end, the training center generates hundreds of hours of data daily, continuously enhancing the robots’ capabilities.
Beijing is not limited to research; it is also advancing rapidly towards large-scale production of humanoid robots. A newly launched super factory is providing manufacturing, assembly, and testing services for various robotics companies.
In its initial phase, the factory has an annual production capacity of 10,000 robots, with plans to significantly increase this number in the coming years. Industry experts believe that as mass production begins, the cost of robots will decrease substantially, leading to a rapid increase in their commercial use.
