Surat, August 16: On the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from the Red Fort highlighted key themes of economic growth, self-reliance, technology, manufacturing, youth engagement, and India’s soft power. Industry leaders and market experts regard this vision as crucial for the nation’s future. Avneesh Tiwari, co-founder and business head of Rupinex, stated that the Prime Minister’s message is not just for India but sends a clear signal to the world that India is rapidly advancing towards becoming a global economic power.
Tiwari emphasized that since 2014, India has made significant strides in development, and this momentum is expected to accelerate in the coming years. The sectors identified by PM Modi as vital for the country’s future require collaborative efforts. Areas such as agriculture, food processing, IT, manufacturing, and soft power will yield results over time, but their collective growth can empower India’s economy.
He noted that establishing a global supply chain in sectors like semiconductors, defense, and advanced technology is not an immediate task. It demands infrastructure, expertise, investment, and sustained efforts over time. Currently, different segments of India’s industry are collaborating effectively. If this interconnected network continues to strengthen, India could achieve its ambitious goals in semiconductors, defense, technology, and manufacturing.
Tiwari pointed out that India faces the dual challenge of not only increasing production but also becoming a reliable and significant partner in the global supply chain. This requires enhancing production capacity alongside promoting technical proficiency and innovation. The transformation in digital payments has set an example for the world. Today, small shopkeepers, street vendors, and ordinary citizens are embracing digital payments. Tiwari highlighted UPI as one of India’s major achievements, stating that digital payments have significantly changed transaction methods. Digital India has not only enhanced payment convenience but also strengthened the digital participation of small businesses and citizens in the economy.
He also mentioned the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the startup ecosystem. Since 2014, there has been a notable shift in the mindset of India’s youth. Previously focused on job-seeking, many young people are now considering starting their own businesses and startups. The emergence of new startups is bolstering the country’s innovation ecosystem. India’s goal should not be limited to the domestic market; it must also increase the number and impact of its companies on a global scale. Aiming for at least 50 Indian companies in the Fortune 500 list represents a significant vision for the corporate sector.
Tiwari noted that the private sector is also advancing rapidly in this direction. He cited a recent agreement on aerospace engine manufacturing as an example. Such agreements can enhance India’s high-tech manufacturing and aerospace capabilities. He also referenced the Adani Group’s ‘Vande Mataram‘ initiative, which aims to bring forth new ideas and talents from villages. He asserted that these efforts could help showcase the talent and innovation present in rural areas on national and global platforms.
He highlighted that International Yoga Day has brought recognition to India’s ancient traditions and culture in many countries. Today, yoga is not confined to India; it is being adopted worldwide as part of health and lifestyle practices. Yoga and Ayurveda have transcended mere health awareness, giving rise to a significant service sector that can create job opportunities in training, wellness centers, tourism, health services, and related fields.
Tiwari concluded that the most critical aspect of the Prime Minister’s Independence Day address is that it presents a comprehensive vision for India’s future, extending beyond mere economic statistics. It encompasses agriculture, technology, manufacturing, the digital economy, yoga, and soft power. To transform India into a global powerhouse, collaboration among the government, industry, startups, youth, and citizens is essential.
