Jerusalem, August 16: On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Israel’s iconic ‘Cords Bridge’ was illuminated in the colors of the Indian flag. The vibrant saffron, white, and green lights served as a powerful symbol of the deepening friendship between India and Israel.
The Indian Embassy in Israel shared images of the event on the social media platform ‘X’, highlighting it as a glimpse into the unbreakable bond between the two nations. The embassy stated, “The friendship between India and Israel is shining bright. On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Jerusalem’s famous ‘Cords Bridge’ lit up in the colors of the Indian flag.”
The post further emphasized, “This friendship is a strong symbol of shared values and a future filled with possibilities. Together, India and Israel are working towards a better and stronger tomorrow.”
To celebrate Independence Day, the Indian Embassy organized several events attended by members of the Indian Jewish community, expatriate Indians, and friends of India. The embassy noted that the 80th Independence Day celebration was marked with “great enthusiasm and zeal.” For the first time, the national song ‘Vande Mataram‘ was sung, commemorating its 150th anniversary.
The event commenced with Ambassador J.P. Singh hoisting the Indian national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Ambassador Singh also read out the Independence Day message from the President of India.
Winners of the ‘Know India Quiz’ and the ‘India Through My Lens’ photography competition were honored during the ceremony. Students from the Indian Cultural Center added vibrancy to the celebrations with dance performances showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity.
The embassy extended Independence Day greetings to Indians living in Israel and around the world, while the illumination of the tricolor in Jerusalem underscored the warm and continually strengthening ties between India and Israel.
