New Delhi, August 14 (Kiran News) – If you have important banking work pending, it is advisable to complete it today, as banks will remain closed for the next three days in many parts of the country. On Friday, August 15, 2025, all government and private banks across India will remain closed in observance of Independence Day.

The following day, August 16, 2025 (Saturday), banks will be closed in several states due to the Janmashtami holiday, while in some regions, the day will also be observed as the Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi). On Sunday, August 17, regular weekly closure will be in effect. This could create a long weekend in many states, affecting branch-based services.
Banks Closed on 15 and 16 August
Independence Day is a national holiday, leading to the closure of banks nationwide. On August 16, Janmashtami will be a holiday in multiple states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. In Gujarat and Maharashtra, the same day will also mark Parsi New Year, leading to bank closures. However, this holiday will not be applicable in all states, and in some regions, banks will remain open on August 16.

Customers are advised to complete essential banking tasks such as cheque clearance, cash withdrawals, RTGS, NEFT, or other branch-related transactions before this holiday period. While bank branches will remain closed, ATM services and online banking facilities will be available as usual.
