New Delhi, May 12: Babulal Marandi, the leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has sharply criticized the Hemant Soren government regarding the state’s law and order situation. During a press conference held in Dhanbad on Tuesday, he accused the state government of providing protection to criminals and mafia groups.
Marandi stated that the law and order in Jharkhand has not only deteriorated but has been deliberately ‘sabotaged’ through a well-planned strategy. He claimed that due to the collusion of criminals, terrorists, and police, both business owners and ordinary citizens in Dhanbad are living in fear. He called for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to expose this nexus.
He remarked, “How can we expect better law and order when tainted officials are appointed to districts and important positions?” Expressing concern over the situation in Dhanbad, he noted that there is a power struggle between uniformed and non-uniformed goons, while the government remains a mere spectator.
Addressing sensitive issues related to security and terrorism, Marandi highlighted that illegal arms are being supplied to Dhanbad from Pakistan via Punjab. He alleged that gangster Prince Khan was provided with bodyguards and arms licenses by Rahul Singh, who is reportedly supplying shooters.
He emphasized that this matter is linked to interstate and international security, thus it should be investigated by the NIA, as the Hemant government is incapable of handling it. Marandi further criticized the government on corruption issues, stating that 17-18 accused in the liquor scam received bail ‘by default’ due to police negligence and the lack of a charge sheet.
He also raised questions about the appointments of the ACB chief and DGP, accusing the government of flouting rules to extend the tenure of favored and controversial officials, which has undermined the credibility of governance. Citing letters written to the Chief Minister, Marandi stated that instead of taking responsibility, the government has chosen to remain silent. Dhanbad MP Dhullu Mahto was also present at the press conference.
