New Delhi, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Chandrashekhar, the leader of the Azaad Samaj Party and a Member of Parliament, announced on Thursday that his party will hold a one-day protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on September 24. The demonstration aims to address the long-standing issue of reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in promotions, which has been pending since 2012.
Speaking to reporters in the capital, Chandrashekhar emphasized the need for the government to engage with them just as it has with those opposing the reservation policy. He stated, “We will see if the government responds to us in the same manner as it did with the opponents of reservation.”
In addition to discussing the protest, Chandrashekhar addressed a recent incident involving an alleged attack on his convoy in Barabanki. He was en route to meet the family of Vinod Kumar Sahani, a member of the Nishad community who was reportedly murdered following a social media dispute.
Describing the incident as a “conspiracy,” he remarked, “There was an attempt on my life. My associates have received repeated threats, and they were told their vehicles would be set on fire. There is definitely some conspiracy behind this.”
Chandrashekhar has previously accused the Barabanki police of negligence, stating that the attack occurred in the presence of police personnel. He called for the registration of a second FIR and demanded action against the officials named in it. “The concerned officers should be suspended, as they may misuse their power while in office,” he asserted.
He also insisted that video footage related to the incident should be preserved to facilitate judicial proceedings. “We are currently trying to proceed through constitutional means. Our FIR has been filed, which includes the names of the female sub-inspector, inspector, and ACP involved,” he noted, adding that not all police should be blamed for the incident.
Chandrashekhar acknowledged that while there has been a delay in action, he believes in the integrity of the police force. “Some officers may err, but not all can be held accountable. Such actions would undermine public trust,” he stated.
He confirmed that an FIR regarding the attack on him was filed today, with evidence showing that images and posters on vehicles were torn down and party workers were assaulted. “This reflects the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh,” he concluded.
