New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) has intensified its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in response to recent protests. On Sunday, CJP co-conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das spoke to the media after leaving Kapil Sibal’s residence. Das emphasized the importance of adhering to the Supreme Court‘s directives regarding the police’s actions during the demonstrations held in Delhi.
On October 10, the Supreme Court heard petitions challenging the police’s response to the protests and the detention of demonstrators. The court mandated the removal of barricades from the city unless absolutely necessary.
Ranka reiterated the party’s stance, stating, “We will not back down until Gyanesh Kumar resigns.” He noted that the absence of Abhijit Dipke was due to his grandmother’s passing.
Das expressed his approval of the Supreme Court’s remarks, highlighting the need to ensure compliance with its orders, especially given past failures to respect directives related to metro stations.
Congress leader Hussain Dalwai defended the right to protest as a constitutional privilege and criticized the police’s heavy-handed tactics. He argued that the situation could have been managed without such measures, urging authorities to engage in dialogue rather than resorting to force. “Detaining individuals in an airplane is unacceptable, and many remain in custody unjustly,” he stated.
Dalwai also remarked on the significant youth turnout in the protests, suggesting it signals the dwindling days of the current government. He asserted that no matter the government’s response, including deploying military or paramilitary forces, young people will continue to protest. He specifically praised the resilience of young women in the movement, calling it a representation of the country’s future.
AITC MP Sougat Roy mentioned that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had prior commitments in Chennai, which prevented his participation. He acknowledged the Supreme Court’s relief for those arrested during the protests, emphasizing that if any cases arise, they will be handled appropriately.
Roy confirmed that the protests were organized by the CJP and that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has expressed its support. He noted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in Delhi, actively participating in the demonstrations.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Rai framed the protests as a fight to save the nation. He stressed that preserving democracy is essential for the country’s survival. Rai called for Kumar’s resignation, action against those responsible, and the cessation of the SIR process, advocating for free and fair elections.
