Lucknow, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh‘s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, criticized Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav during a protest marking the birth anniversary of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. Pathak labeled the demonstration a political spectacle, questioning the significant rise in the cost of the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) and the inclusion of luxury amenities like swimming pools.
He raised concerns about the appropriateness of spending taxpayers’ money on such facilities. Pathak accused the Samajwadi Party of using the names of Jayaprakash Narayan and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia to deflect attention from their governance issues. He emphasized that Narayan dedicated his life to fighting against corruption, nepotism, and misgovernance. Instead of politicizing the legacy of such leaders, he urged adherence to their ideals as a true tribute.
Pathak demanded answers from Yadav regarding the project’s initial budget of approximately ₹17 crore, which has ballooned to ₹850 crore. He questioned why the costs have escalated repeatedly and the necessity of adding five-star amenities and swimming pools.
He dismissed allegations that the JPNIC was being sold, asserting that the Yogi government had arranged for its lease to ensure better management and operation. According to him, this decision aims to guarantee proper functioning of the institution and optimal use of public assets.
Pathak stressed that public funds should be utilized in the public interest, making accountability regarding the JPNIC’s costs and developed facilities essential. He further criticized the Samajwadi Party, stating that honoring the philosophies of Jayaprakash Narayan and Lohia requires action against corruption and nepotism, not merely invoking their names.
In closing, Pathak called on the public to unite against corruption, misgovernance, and nepotism, asserting that true respect for great leaders lies in embracing their principles and following their paths.
