Lucknow, May 31: An auto driver, Sunny Yadav, wanted in connection with an alleged assault, verbal abuse, and attempted murder of a young woman, was injured and arrested by police in an encounter in the Vikas Nagar area of Lucknow.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Dr. Diksha Sharma informed that a complaint was filed on May 30 at the Vikas Nagar police station. The complainant reported that auto driver Sunny Yadav had made obscene gestures towards their daughter. When the young woman protested, the accused used abusive language and attempted to attack her. The assault left the victim with serious injuries, necessitating hospitalization.

Following the victim’s family’s complaint, a case was registered at the Vikas Nagar police station. Given the seriousness of the situation, the police launched a manhunt for the accused.

Late Saturday night, police received credible information that the wanted suspect, Sunny Yadav, was hiding near the Geological Survey of India (GSI) residential complex in the Tehri Pulia area of Lucknow. Upon receiving the tip-off, the police team quickly arrived at the scene. They surrounded the suspect and ordered him to surrender; however, Yadav opened fire on the police team with an illegal firearm in an attempt to evade arrest.

The first bullet struck the gate of the station chief’s official vehicle, while the second landed in a nearby field. The police team responded to protect themselves.

It was reported that during the encounter, Sunny Yadav was shot in the right leg and fell injured. He was apprehended at the scene and transported to the hospital for medical treatment, where he is currently receiving care. Authorities also recovered an illegal firearm from him.

Dr. Diksha Sharma stated that Sunny Yadav has several prior criminal cases against him and had been evading capture for a long time. Efforts are underway to locate his accomplices.
