Ranchi, June 18: The attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Jharkhand’s Nivaranpur took a new turn on Thursday. The main accused, arrested for throwing petrol bombs, escaped from police custody and was later injured in an encounter with the police. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The injured assailant has been identified as Saif.
According to police, the accused was held in the lockup at the Kotwali police station. On Thursday afternoon, he managed to flee from custody. Following this, police teams pursued him. While attempting to corner him in the Mandar area, he allegedly snatched a police officer’s weapon and opened fire.
In response, the police acted in self-defense, resulting in the assailant being injured. He was promptly taken to the hospital. The attack on the RSS office in Nivaranpur occurred late at night when two youths were seen throwing bombs in CCTV footage. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the office did not sustain significant damage.
An FIR has been registered at the Chutia police station based on a complaint from Nar Singh Kumar, the RSS chief for Jharkhand. The FIR states that the petrol bomb attack targeted the office and posed a threat to the lives of those present. The complaint describes this as a serious conspiracy and calls for action under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The police have also added sections of the UAPA to the case. The RSS has requested increased security for the office and the establishment of permanent police pickets around the premises.
The organization emphasizes that many workers and officials regularly stay at the office, and such incidents could pose significant risks in the future. So far, police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case. Investigative agencies are looking into the conspiracy behind the attack, the connections among the accused, and potential networks involved. Officials state that the investigation is ongoing, with a thorough examination of all aspects.
