Guwahati, February 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked a significant milestone on Thursday, celebrating 25 years as a legislator. He described this journey as a major personal achievement driven by commitment to public service, courage, and the welfare of the people.

In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma reflected on his journey that began in 2001 when he was first elected as a legislator, continuing to his current role as the Chief Minister.

He stated, “While roles have changed, my commitment to public service has remained steadfast.” He characterized the past two and a half decades as a journey filled with deep responsibility and love for the people of Assam.

Recalling his early years in the assembly, Sarma mentioned that he had the opportunity to work on several important committees, focusing on rural development and educational reforms. These initial experiences helped shape his understanding of legal processes and grassroots governance.

In 2006, after taking the oath as a minister, Sarma began to grasp the practical challenges of governance, including balancing development priorities with financial discipline. During this time, he was involved in efforts to enhance educational infrastructure, initiate scholarships for talented students, and lay the groundwork for financial inclusion.

Reflecting on his tenure as Chief Minister since 2021, Sarma noted that he took office with a vision to create a stronger and more decisive Assam. He emphasized that he has strived to serve with the same dedication and enthusiasm that guided him in his early years as a legislator. “From being a young legislator speaking in these hallowed halls to leading the state today, the trust and love of the people have been my greatest strength,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his intention to continue serving the state with commitment and purpose. He expressed hope for ongoing progress, peace, and prosperity in Assam, stating, “As I look to the future, my resolve to serve my homeland remains as strong as ever.”
