
Guwahati, June 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated domestic and industrial piped natural gas (PNG) supply projects on Tuesday. He emphasized that these initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for energy self-sufficiency, aiming to reduce reliance on imported LPG.
The Chief Minister shared updates on social media platform X, announcing the significant step of launching domestic and industrial PNG supply projects in Mangaldai and Tezpur.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, he virtually inaugurated the PNG supply projects and industrial PNG connectivity from the Lok Seva Bhawan. He also launched new CNG facilities in Uhani and Goraimari.
The government stated that these projects will ensure a clean, reliable, and environmentally friendly supply of natural gas to homes, businesses, and industries. This will promote sustainable development and boost economic activities in the region.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Sarma noted that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has increased pressure on global energy supplies. In this context, the Assam government is encouraging a shift from LPG to PNG, in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision.
He expressed pride that Assam’s refineries are enhancing LPG production capacity. The Chief Minister mentioned that expanding PNG infrastructure will reduce LPG consumption and help save foreign currency. He also highlighted the government’s plan to develop Assam as a major hub for natural gas.
To ensure better utilization of the state’s natural resources, extensive PNG connectivity is being developed, benefiting both domestic consumers and industries.
Regarding CNG facilities, the Chief Minister stated that their expansion will improve Assam’s air quality index and help reduce pollution. He reiterated that promoting the use of clean fuel is a priority for the state government.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the new PNG and CNG projects will play a crucial role in strengthening energy security, protecting the environment, and fostering economic growth in the state.
