Guwahati, May 22: Bhupen Kumar Bora, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and newly elected MLA, launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a press conference on Friday. Bora criticized Gandhi for his recent comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that the Congress leader has failed to gain the trust and support of the Indian public.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Bora stated that Rahul Gandhi has long aspired to become the Prime Minister of India, but the people have repeatedly rejected his leadership. He emphasized that Gandhi’s ambition to lead the country has not materialized because the public does not want him in that position.
Bora asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s return to power for a third consecutive term reflects the public’s confidence in his leadership and governance. He noted that Modi has been elected three times because the people wish to see him lead India.
Criticizing the tone and language used by Rahul Gandhi in his remarks against the Prime Minister, Bora claimed that such statements further damage the Congress leader’s public image and political acceptability. He remarked that the words Gandhi employs against the Prime Minister make him less acceptable among the populace.
Bora’s recent switch from Congress to BJP garnered significant attention in the political corridors of Assam, especially ahead of the recently concluded state assembly elections. As a former president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Bora joined the BJP just before the elections. Following his entry into the party, he was nominated as the candidate for the Biswanath Assembly constituency, where he achieved victory in the state elections.
The ruling BJP-led NDA coalition secured a decisive mandate in the Assam assembly elections, paving the way for the formation of a new government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
