Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Appoints Kupa Krishnan as Chair of Urban Housing Development Board

Chennai, May 22: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay has officially appointed Kupa Krishnan as the Chair of the Urban Housing Development Board. This board was established to enhance housing facilities for the underprivileged and economically weaker sections of society. It focuses on constructing residential units and implementing rehabilitation projects in various housing areas.

On Friday, Chief Minister Vijay entrusted Kupa Krishnan with overseeing and executing the board’s welfare schemes.

Additionally, the Tamil Nadu government has initiated the process of expanding its cabinet. The Chief Minister has recommended the inclusion of two legislators in the cabinet, a proposal that has received approval from the Governor.

According to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Public Building, the Chief Minister recommended the inclusion of A.M. Shahjahan, elected from the Papanasam assembly constituency, and Vanni Arasu, elected from the Tindivanam assembly constituency, into the cabinet. The Governor has granted approval for this recommendation.

This cabinet expansion is seen as a strategy to create regional balance within the ruling party and provide opportunities for new faces. A.M. Shahjahan represents the significant southern Tamil Nadu region, while Vanni Arasu represents the northeastern part. Their inclusion is expected to strengthen regional representation in the cabinet.

Earlier on Thursday, 23 new ministers were inducted into the cabinet, with the Governor approving the allocation of departments. Among them, Srinath has been assigned fisheries, Kamali S. has taken on animal husbandry, C. Vijayalakshmi is responsible for milk and dairy development, and R.V. Ranjit Kumar has been assigned the forest department. Vinod has been given charge of agriculture and farmer welfare, while Rajiv will oversee the environment and climate change department.

Other ministers include B. Rajkumar, who will handle housing and urban development, V. Gandhiraj for cooperation, Mathan Raja P. for micro, small, and medium enterprises, Jagadishwari K. for social welfare and women’s empowerment, and Rajesh Kumar S. for tourism.

Furthermore, M. Vijay Balaji has been assigned handlooms and textiles, Logesh Tamilselvan D. for commercial taxes and registration, A. Vijay Tamil Parthiban for transport, and Ramesh for the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
