Bhagalpur, August 21: Former Union Minister Ashwini Choubey has sharply criticized the Congress party’s recent decision regarding ‘Vande Mataram.’ He stated that India will not tolerate any disrespect towards the national song. Choubey accused Congress of continuously weakening its political position, asserting that if the party has issues with nationalism, it should refrain from singing even two lines of ‘Vande Mataram.’
Choubey emphasized that Congress is not being forced to sing ‘Vande Mataram.’ However, the suggestion to halt the song midway and sing only two verses will further weaken the party’s political standing. He questioned why Congress should sing two lines if it is averse to patriotism.
He warned that Congress’s current political situation could deteriorate further. The party is creating circumstances that undermine its political base. Choubey noted that if political activities can be conducted to secure positions, then why is there a need to stop the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’?
He stated that Congress can sing whatever it wants, and if it aims to benefit the country, it should do so without hindrance. However, he stressed that the responsibility for nationalism and patriotism lies with everyone. It is not solely the duty of one individual or government. Instilling a sense of patriotism in future generations and advancing the nation is the responsibility of every citizen. ‘Vande Mataram’ is not just a song; it serves as a medium to inspire patriotism in future generations. Connecting the youth with a sense of responsibility towards the country is essential for India’s progress.
Choubey referred to the year 2047, marking the centenary of independence, suggesting that while the current generation may not be present, the youth will be shaping India’s future. Those born today will be around 20 years old in 2047. It is crucial to instill a sense of patriotism and responsibility in these young people.
He also stated that the country will not accept any disrespect towards its eternal culture. India’s culture promotes the idea of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ viewing the world as one family. An act has been passed in Parliament regarding ‘Vande Mataram,’ which has been approved by the government and all MPs. If Congress chooses not to sing it or make a different decision, that is its prerogative.
Choubey responded to questions about viewing ‘Vande Mataram’ in the context of a single community. He insisted that the song should not be seen as opposing any particular community. He referenced figures like Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore, and Swami Vivekananda, who contributed to India’s progress and strengthened the nation’s identity. The new generation will play a crucial role in making India a developed nation by 2047. Therefore, it is vital to connect the youth with the country’s history, sacrifices, and spirit of nationalism.
