Ashok Pandit Praises Kashmiri Film Batt Koch for Its Emotional Depth

Mumbai, March 17: Kashmiri Pandit and filmmaker Ashok Pandit has lauded the Kashmiri language film ‘Batt Koch.’ He shared a video on social media, describing the film as emotionally rich, powerful, and deeply moving.

In his Instagram post, Pandit wrote, “This film completely captivates the audience, compels them to think, and delivers a profound message.” He emphasized the historical context, stating, “We all know that in 1990, Kashmiri Pandits faced exile, genocide, and ethnic cleansing, leaving the entire community homeless.”

The film, titled ‘Batt Koch,’ refers to the lanes of Kashmiri Pandits. It portrays how, despite enduring such a significant tragedy, the next generation remains connected to their roots through the stories of their parents. Pandit praised the film’s directors, Siddharth Kaul and Ankit Wali, saying, “These two young men from our community decided to present our pain to the world through film. Creating and releasing a film in today’s times is a remarkable achievement. The most important thing is that they did not take up arms or choose a negative path; they embraced art to convey their struggles.”

He also commended producer Vinayak for his courage and passion, stating, “Dreams cannot be fulfilled without money and funding. Vinayak believed in the project and made the film.”

Pandit praised the performances of actors M.K. Raina, Kusum Dhar, Anil Kaul Chingari, Kusum Tikku, Sakshi Bhatt, Shreme Bhatt, Dilip Pandita, and others. He highlighted the film’s music, noting that Saurabh Jhaadu composed it in the style of Kashmiri folk music, effectively expressing the emotions of the Pandit family. He remarked on the excellent camera work, editing (by Akanksha Jhaadu), costumes, and post-production quality.

In his caption, he extended best wishes to the entire team, expressing hope that they would win all awards in the ‘Regional Film’ category this year. He noted that the film evoked memories of the valley and is based on humanity. This small, low-budget Kashmiri film has made a lasting impression.

Pandit concluded his post by stating, “This film is a milestone for Kashmiri Pandits. It will always be remembered.” He recalled the passion and sincerity in Siddharth and Ankit’s eyes when they first presented the script, knowing that the film would eventually be released.
