Lucknow, February 16: Ashish Patel, a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, has responded sharply to statements made by Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav regarding the SIR (Systematic Identification of Residents). Patel claims Yadav is spreading confusion among the public out of fear of losing the upcoming assembly elections.
Patel stated that prior to the Bihar assembly elections, the Election Commission conducted an SIR to rectify the voter list. During this process, opposition parties made several false claims to mislead the public. However, when asked for evidence, none could provide any. There were no complaints about vote cutting, and Patel emphasized that if opposition members know the public is not with them, they should refrain from spreading confusion.
He further asserted that Akhilesh Yadav is aware that the public is not in his favor and that he is likely to face defeat in the elections. Consequently, Yadav is attempting to derail responsible initiatives like the SIR by raising such issues.
On the controversy surrounding the national song “Vande Mataram,” Patel remarked that it belongs to everyone. Anyone who wishes to sing it is free to do so, while those who do not want to sing it are also entitled to their choice. He believes there should be no animosity towards the national song if one loves and is dedicated to the nation.
Regarding the new UGC regulations, Patel stated that their party was formed to protect the interests of the marginalized and oppressed. He noted that their party and leader, Anupriya Patel, have consistently supported the implementation of UGC regulations and have voiced their opinions in appropriate forums. While he cannot comment on ongoing court proceedings, he affirmed that the party’s stance is clear in favor of UGC regulations.
