Sadhguru Proposes Himalayan Board for Five Nations, Pledges 1 Crore for Nepal Relief Fund

Kathmandu, August 31: Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev addressed a solidarity event in Kathmandu on Sunday, pledging 1 crore to Nepal’s Prime Minister‘s disaster relief fund in response to the devastating floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. He also called for enhanced cooperation among Himalayan nations to tackle disasters affecting this fragile region.

Thousands are missing, with many feared dead, including 77 individuals from the ‘Isha Sacred Walks Kailash Yatra’ who were at the Girong Immigration Center in China during the disaster, along with three Isha volunteers stationed in Nepal.

Sadhguru proposed the formation of a Himalayan Board comprising India, China, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. He urged these nations to think beyond political boundaries in addressing shared mountain challenges.

“The mountains do not recognize your political affiliations,” he emphasized. “They are unaware of your rhetoric or the language you speak. Even if we cannot operate as a single entity, we must at least consult as one. Our actions should be coordinated, as the Himalayas are the planet’s most magnificent and delicate feature.”

He stressed the need for a collective organization among the countries with Himalayan ranges. “Despite different political administrations, the mountains should be viewed as a unique feature that needs preservation for future generations. If we continue to think, ‘This is Nepal’s problem; let them handle it,’ there will never be a solution.”

Sadhguru highlighted that the scale of the disaster exceeded expectations, necessitating a collective response rather than relying solely on Nepal to manage it. “No one anticipated that a massive chunk of glacier ice would fall 4,000 feet from the mountain peak. Such an event is unpredictable. However, now that it has occurred, we must pay attention, as a small country like Nepal cannot resolve this alone.”

Actress Manisha Koirala, who shared the stage with Sadhguru, asked what lessons people could learn from such calamities. Sadhguru replied, “As humans, we should not wait for disasters to happen. It is crucial to understand our mortality. If we remain aware of this, we will plan our lives and live wisely.”

He urged people not to view this disaster as a ‘divine cause’ or ‘mysterious possibility,’ emphasizing that such notions could diminish the reality of human suffering. He stressed the importance of distinguishing between the spiritual aspects of life and the physical laws governing natural events.

“We should not waste time on such matters. Divinity is one aspect, but physical events are governed by physical laws. Therefore, do not underestimate human suffering through philosophies or mystical interpretations. It may all be God’s will, but it is still a physical event.”

Sadhguru also announced that a ‘Kal Bhairav Karma’ would be performed at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore. This sacred death ritual aims to bring peace and a positive transition to those who have died from both natural and unnatural causes.

The ‘In Solidarity with Nepal’ event brought together people in Kathmandu to support those affected by the disaster. Beyond immediate relief, Sadhguru spoke of a deep collective responsibility towards the Himalayas, acknowledging that the mountains transcend the borders drawn between countries and that their future is interconnected with all who depend on them.
