New Delhi, August 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed a successful visit to Uzbekistan and has now arrived in Kyrgyzstan. Reflecting on his time in Tashkent, he noted that the trip showcased the increasing affinity for Indian culture, history, languages, and ideas among the people of Uzbekistan.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi reminisced about his visit. He wrote, “My visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Center at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies was special and interesting for several reasons. I witnessed a vibrant and active environment for Indology studies. There was a palpable enthusiasm among students and teachers to learn about and understand India. Significant and commendable work is being done on the life and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. There was also a growing interest in Tamil language and culture. Students recited lines from some of my poems, which was a very special experience for me.”
During his visit to Tashkent, PM Modi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Shastri Memorial. The Indian community warmly welcomed him during this occasion.
Lal Bahadur Shastri served as India’s Prime Minister from June 9, 1964, to January 11, 1966, and is known for the popular national slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.”
In his post, PM Modi stated, “I paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent. We remember a great statesman whose unwavering commitment to the nation continues to inspire generations.”
He also held delegation-level talks with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Presidential Palace, reviewing various dimensions of bilateral relations.
Discussions at the Presidential Palace covered trade and investment, critical minerals, defense and security, innovation and startups, digital public infrastructure and UPI, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education, tourism, space, and public relations.
PM Modi welcomed the progress made towards a long-term agreement for uranium supply from Uzbekistan to India and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in critical minerals.
After the trip, PM Modi expressed gratitude towards Uzbekistan. In his social media post, he wrote, “Thank you, Uzbekistan!”
