Anurag Thakur Criticizes Himachal Pradesh Government for Unfulfilled Promises

Shimla, March 26: Anurag Thakur, a Member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh and former Union Minister, launched a sharp attack on the state’s Congress government on Thursday. He stated that the Congress government, which came to power in 2022 based on grand electoral promises and “10 guarantees,” has completely failed to fulfill any of its commitments.

Thakur accused the Congress government of burdening the public with rising taxes and inflation instead. He emphasized that the state government has been severely ineffective, turning promises of relief into economic exploitation of the common man.

Shortly after assuming power, the state government increased VAT on diesel to ₹10.4 per liter. As a result, the people of Himachal Pradesh have been taxed thousands of crores over the past 40 months.

Thakur alleged that the state government is now preparing to impose additional surcharges on petrol and diesel, which will directly impact the common citizen. In response to Chief Minister Sukhu’s statement that no surcharge has been implemented yet, Thakur remarked that once such an idea is included in their policy, it is clear they intend to enforce it. The BJP will strongly oppose this move and ensure that no additional burden is placed on the people.

He accused the state government of ignoring the hardships faced by the public while favoring their close associates. Thakur pointed out that while the common man struggles with inflation, the state government has significantly increased salaries for its officials, provided luxury vehicles, and granted undue benefits to their favorites. This, he claimed, is the true face of Congress.

Thakur, the BJP MP from Hamirpur, noted that there is internal dissent within Congress, with even their own party leaders disagreeing with the state government’s policies, leading to rifts within the party.

Rejecting the state government’s claim that the surcharge would only affect traders, Thakur clarified that ultimately, the burden would fall on farmers, transporters, taxi drivers, shopkeepers, and the general public, as rising fuel prices impact every sector of the economy.

Expressing concern over the state’s financial condition, Thakur stated that under the current Congress-led government, Himachal Pradesh has accumulated over ₹1 lakh crore in debt. He further suggested that if Chief Minister Sukhu lacks the capability for financial management, he should consider handing over the finance ministry to someone more competent.

Thakur demanded that the Congress-led government fulfill its 10 guarantees instead of imposing new taxes.
