Nepal Expresses Gratitude for Chinas Support Amid Crisis

Beijing, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Shishir Khanal, met with Chinese Ambassador Chang Maoming on September 3 in Kathmandu to express gratitude for China’s selfless support during times of crisis. Khanal emphasized the shared responsibility both nations have in managing the natural ecology of the Himalayas, as they are both affected by climate change.

Khanal stated that Nepal agrees with China on the notion that addressing climate change is a collective responsibility of the international community. He clarified that Nepal does not intend to seek compensation from developed nations, including China, for climate justice. Instead, Nepal aims to secure international funding under the frameworks of the UN Climate Change Framework Agreement and the Paris Agreement.

Ambassador Chang noted that China has provided various forms of assistance to Nepal following severe landslides. He expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts of both nations will help their peoples overcome disasters together.

Chang further remarked that climate change poses a universal challenge for humanity, affecting all nations. He reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Nepal and the international community to effectively prevent or mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
