Amaravati, June 19: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has assured the family of Gade Sai Krishna, who allegedly died in police custody, of a fair investigation and justice. On Friday, Sai Krishna’s mother, Vijay Lakshmi, and other family members met with the Chief Minister, demanding a thorough inquiry into the case.
Chief Minister Naidu comforted Vijay Lakshmi, stating that a fair investigation will be conducted and that those responsible will not be spared. He confirmed that an inquiry has already been ordered, and the circle inspector of Krishna Lanka police station, Nagaraju, has been suspended.
After the meeting with the Chief Minister, Vijay Lakshmi expressed her hope for justice. She mentioned that the Chief Minister assured her that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out, leading to strict action against the guilty.
This meeting occurred shortly after former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Vijayawada to meet the grieving family. He called for a CBI investigation into the incident surrounding Sai Krishna’s disappearance and alleged death in police custody.
The 26-year-old Sai Krishna was taken by police for questioning on May 9 regarding a case and has not returned home since. Following his disappearance, his mother filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court. The court directed the Krishna Lanka police to produce Sai Krishna by June 15, but this was not fulfilled. The High Court has now ordered the police to present the youth by June 29.
On June 17, Chief Minister Naidu assigned the investigation to a senior IPS officer. Following this, D. Narasimha Kishore, the Superintendent of Police for East Godavari district, arrived in Vijayawada and recorded statements from Vijay Lakshmi and other family members.
Meanwhile, based on Vijay Lakshmi’s complaint, suspended officer Nagaraju has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for illegal detention, murder, and destruction of evidence. Vijay Lakshmi alleges that her son was tortured in police custody and beaten to death.
