P.V. Sindhu Qualifies for BWF World Tour Finals

Indian badminton star P.V. Sindhu secures a spot in the BWF World Tour Finals, set for December in Hangzhou, China.

New Delhi, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : Indian badminton sensation P.V. Sindhu has officially qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals, as confirmed by the Badminton World Federation on Wednesday. The prestigious tournament will take place from December 9 to 13 in Hangzhou, China.

Joining Sindhu in the finals are top players including An Se-young, Akane Yamaguchi, Wang Zhi Yi, and Chen Yu Fei. The event invites the top eight players and pairs based on the year-end world rankings, excluding the Thomas Cup years.

In the women’s singles category, five players have qualified, with Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki, Nozomi Okuhara, Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani, and Pornpawee Chochuwong, along with Denmark’s Line Christophersen, competing for the remaining spots.

This will mark Sindhu’s return to the World Tour Finals for the first time since 2021. Although she qualified in 2022, an injury forced her to withdraw. Sindhu remains the only Indian to have won the women’s singles title at the BWF World Tour Finals, achieving this feat in 2018 against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara.

Sindhu’s recent victory at the Hilo Open was crucial in securing her spot in the upcoming finals. The championship added 9,200 points to her tally, propelling her to sixth place in the latest BWF world rankings. This year, she has claimed two titles on the tour.

Before the Hilo Open, Sindhu reached the finals of the French Open but lost to the world number one and reigning Olympic champion An Se-young. After her Hilo Open triumph, Sindhu decided to skip the Korea Open and Japan Masters to rest and prepare for the World Tour Finals.
