Bihars Chief Minister Meets Nitish Kumar to Discuss Ganga Dredging Agreement
Bihars CM Samrat Chaudhary updates Nitish Kumar on a major agreement for dredging the Ganga, aimed at flood relief and soil preservation.

Patna, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary met with former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday at Kumar’s residence. The meeting lasted approximately 20 minutes. Following their discussion, Chaudhary announced that a significant agreement has been reached regarding the dredging of the Ganga River, a project Kumar has long advocated. This initiative is expected to aid in flood relief efforts in Bihar.
In a conversation with reporters, Chaudhary explained that he informed Kumar about the agreement made with the central government concerning the dredging of the Ganga. Kumar has consistently raised this issue, and the government is now taking steps to fulfill his vision.
Chaudhary noted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an agreement has been established with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This agreement will initiate the removal of approximately 400,000 cubic meters of silt from the Ganga and other major rivers. The extracted silt will be utilized within Bihar. He emphasized that this dual approach will not only provide relief from flooding but also help prevent soil erosion in agricultural fields.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the central government and the Ministry of Road Transport for their support in this initiative. He praised Kumar for establishing better governance and reducing organized crime in the state. With the combined efforts of the Prime Minister and Kumar, Bihar is progressing towards becoming a developed state.
Chaudhary also mentioned that during his meetings with various central ministers, he urged the Railway Minister to enhance rail services for the upcoming Chhath and Diwali festivals, which attract many visitors to Bihar. Last year, over 10,000 pairs of trains were operated, and he requested even more services this time.
He proposed the development of industrial corridors at five additional locations in the state, similar to the one being established in Gaya. Proposals for Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga have been submitted to the central government. Chaudhary is optimistic that these proposals will receive approval soon. The state is making approximately 13,000 acres of land available, and over 1,000 industries have already been provided opportunities. A data center for Control S has also been completed in Patna, and operations have commenced.
He requested expedited environmental clearances for the industrial corridors and sought approval from the central government to develop eco-tourism in Bihar through public-private partnerships. Additionally, he asked the Railway Minister to initiate direct train services from Ayodhya to Sitamarhi, connecting the birthplaces of Lord Ram and Mata Sita.
