Bhubaneswar, May 31: Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the Governor of Odisha, has appointed IPS officer Ananya Awasthi as the Governor’s ADC, making her the first woman to hold this prestigious position.
An official statement revealed that a formal induction ceremony took place on Sunday at Lok Bhawan, where Governor Kambhampati welcomed Awasthi into her new role. Senior officials from the Governor’s Secretariat were also present at the event.
Before her appointment, Ananya Awasthi served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Urban Police District of Cuttack. Her appointment as the first female ADC to the Governor is a significant milestone for women’s participation in public service.
Awasthi, a member of the 2022 IPS batch, will succeed fellow IPS officer Kuldeep Meena, who previously served as the Governor’s Police ADC. During a recent reshuffle by the state government, the 2021 batch officer Meena was appointed as the Superintendent of Police in the Baudh District.
Notably, the Governor of Odisha is assisted by two ADCs, one from the Indian Navy and the other from the Odisha Police. Ananya Awasthi will serve as the Police ADC, while Lieutenant Harshit Dev from the Indian Navy will continue as the Naval ADC to the Governor.
ADCs play a crucial role in assisting the Governor with official duties, ceremonial functions, and other protocol-related tasks. Awasthi’s appointment as the first female ADC is viewed as a significant achievement in the state’s public service landscape.
This historic posting highlights the increasing role of women in leadership and ceremonial positions within the police and administrative framework.
