Anand Police Achieves 100% Conviction Rate in POCSO Cases

Anand, March 7: In a significant achievement, the police in Anand district, Gujarat, secured a 100% conviction rate in all seven cases filed under the POCSO Act between March and December 2024.

Recently, two additional verdicts were announced, with the court sentencing both accused to life imprisonment. Out of the seven convicted individuals, six received life sentences, while one was sentenced to 20 years in prison. All cases involved sexual offenses against minors.

Officials reported that charge sheets were filed within a maximum of 45 days from the registration of the FIRs. Consequently, most cases were resolved within eight to nine months in court.

The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Anand’s SP, G.G. Jasani, led by D.R. Chaudhary, who was the Circle Inspector of the Petlad division at the time and is currently serving as an inspector at the Borsad police station.

According to the police, the investigation team adopted a “top-to-bottom” approach, utilizing both traditional investigative methods and technical tools. Witness statements and documentation were recorded via video using an e-evidence application to ensure the integrity of evidence during judicial proceedings.

Additionally, scientific and medical evidence gathered with the assistance of crime scene managers and forensic science labs played a crucial role in securing convictions.

Officials stated that the swift investigation, timely charge sheets, and use of scientific evidence contributed to the 100% conviction rate in all seven cases.

On this achievement, Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi congratulated Inspector D.R. Chaudhary and his team. He remarked, “The promptness and sensitivity of Gujarat Police have strengthened the trust of the state’s daughters and their families in their safety.”

He emphasized that the state government adopts a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against crimes committed against women and minors, ensuring no leniency in such cases.
