New Delhi, March 27: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has welcomed the central government’s decision to reduce excise duty on fuel, stating that it reflects the government’s commitment to citizen-centric governance and its ability to make sensitive decisions.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Amit Shah wrote, “At a time when the world is grappling with fuel shortages due to the crisis in West Asia and prices are rising globally, the Modi government’s decision to cut excise duty on fuel provides much-needed relief to citizens.”
He further added, “While many countries have increased the prices of diesel and petrol, the Modi government’s reduction in excise duty showcases its citizen-centric governance and sensitivity in decision-making. Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision.”
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also commented, “Amid current turmoil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again taken a courageous and sensitive decision to manage the situation. He has reduced the excise duty on petrol from ₹13 per liter to ₹3 per liter and on diesel from ₹10 per liter to zero, providing significant relief to the common man.”
He continued, “Just as India set an example for the world during the COVID pandemic, Prime Minister Modi is once again leading the way in these challenging times.”
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated in a post on ‘X’, “A major relief for every citizen. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government has reduced the excise duty on fuel. The duty on petrol has been cut from ₹13 to ₹3 per liter, and on diesel, it has been reduced to zero. Despite rising crude oil prices due to the West Asia crisis, we have ensured that the common man does not bear any additional burden, while also alleviating pressure on oil companies.”
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami remarked, “Whenever the country has faced challenges, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured the protection of citizens’ interests through his strong leadership and visionary decisions. The reduction of excise duty on petrol from ₹13 to ₹3 per liter and on diesel to zero is a historic decision that provides great relief to the public. Additionally, ensuring adequate availability of diesel and ATF through export duties reflects a balanced and citizen-friendly approach.”
He further stated in his post on ‘X’, “This decision reaffirms that for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the interests of the nation and public welfare are always paramount.”
It is noteworthy that the central government announced on Friday a reduction of ₹10 per liter in excise duty on petrol and diesel, bringing the excise duty on petrol down to ₹3 per liter and eliminating it for diesel. This step aims to mitigate the impact of rising global oil prices.
