Agartala, February 20: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will preside over the Joint Regional Language Conference in Agartala, Tripura, on Friday. This event will focus on the regional languages of the eastern, northeastern, and northern regions of India.
Anshuli Arya, Secretary of the Language Department at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), stated that over 3,000 senior officials, representatives, and experts from central government offices, public sector companies, and banks across these regions will participate in the conference. Officials and experts from nearly 20 states will attend this inaugural event in Tripura.
During the conference, 80 Regional Language Awards will be presented to central government offices, banks, and companies for effectively implementing the language policy for the year 2024-25. Additionally, municipal language implementation committees will be honored with the ‘Narakas Incentive Award.’
Arya further explained that award recipients are selected based on quarterly progress reports submitted through the official information management system.
The inaugural session on Friday will also see the release of a special edition of ‘Rajbhasha Bharati’ dedicated to the northeastern region, along with the launch of several books. The session will include easy postures, pranayama, and stress management exercises guided by experienced trainers.
Participating states from the eastern region include West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand, while the northeastern region will be represented by Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. The northern region will include Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Anshuli Arya emphasized that artificial intelligence and modern technology will play a crucial role in addressing language-related challenges. She noted, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah always communicate in simple Hindi for the welfare of the public. Even in writing letters, the Home Minister uses the official language of the states.”
She added that the central government has consistently promoted the use of Hindi and 22 other Indian languages to strengthen the country’s cultural roots. Arya asserted, “There is no question of imposing a major language like Hindi over local or other Indian languages.”
