New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : A special court in New Delhi has granted default bail to American citizen Matthew Vandike, one of seven foreign nationals arrested for allegedly training terrorist organizations in Myanmar. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) charged Vandike with providing training in weaponry and drone operation to armed groups.
The Rouse Avenue Court set Vandike’s bail at one lakh rupees, requiring him to remain in Delhi during the bail period. The court also mandated that he must appear before the NIA whenever summoned for questioning.
Vandike requested the default bail, citing delays in the investigation, a plea the court accepted. The court noted that the other six arrested individuals, all Ukrainian nationals, are also entitled to default bail on similar grounds.
The NIA has accused these seven foreign nationals of maintaining contact with an ethnic armed group in Myanmar and providing training to terrorist factions. The agency claims that the suspects imported drones from Europe to facilitate their training efforts in Myanmar.
