Sukhbir Badal Discharged from Hospital, Calls for NIA Investigation into Attacks

Chandigarh, August 16: Sukhbir Singh Badal, the leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal and former Deputy Chief Minister, has been discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. He was admitted following an attack at a Gurudwara in Nanded, Maharashtra.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a Member of Parliament from the Shiromani Akali Dal, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the attacks. She shared images of the ‘kirpan’ used in the assault and of her injured hand.

On Thursday, a person dressed as a Nihang attacked Sukhbir Badal at the Nanded Gurudwara. This incident follows an attempted attack on him outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar in December 2024.

Harsimrat described the incident as part of a larger conspiracy and raised concerns about the Punjab Police and the Aam Aadmi Party government. She alleged that the accused from the 2024 attack is still at large and is linked to the ISI.

In her letter, she expressed worry that there is an attempt to normalize political and religious violence. She stated that repeated violent incidents at sacred places like Gurudwaras not only hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community but also tarnish the image of Punjab and the nation.

She emphasized that Punjab is a border state and has always been sensitive from a national security perspective. If there is any involvement of extremist, inter-state, or foreign networks, a thorough investigation is essential. Such incidents cannot be dismissed as mere law and order issues.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal urged the Home Minister to ensure that both incidents on August 13, 2026, and December 4, 2024, are investigated by the NIA to determine if they are part of a larger conspiracy. She also insisted that no innocent person should be harassed or falsely implicated during the investigation, and that appropriate action should be taken against the guilty.

She pointed out that due to negligence from the police and administration, strict action against the accused was not taken, leading to another attack.

Harsimrat has called for an NIA investigation and strict action against the perpetrators.
