Allegations of Bribery Against Odisha Congress Legislators in Bengaluru Resort

Bengaluru, March 15: Two individuals were detained near Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to bribe Congress legislators from Odisha ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. The police reported this incident on Sunday.

The event took place at the Wonderla Resort near Bidadi, located along the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. Eight Congress legislators from Odisha were staying at the resort due to concerns over potential poaching before the elections.

According to Congress sources, two individuals from Odisha managed to enter the resort premises and attempted to influence one legislator’s vote in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Reports indicate that they even offered a blank check during their discussions.

Ashok Kumar Das, the deputy leader of the Odisha Congress legislative party, filed a complaint with the Bidadi police. He alleged that some individuals approached the legislators and proposed to pay each of them millions of rupees to secure cross-voting in the elections.

In his complaint, Das stated, “On March 15, four unidentified individuals met some of our legislators and offered each of them millions of rupees. When our legislators rejected this proposal, they threatened us with death upon our return to Odisha and used abusive language.”

R. Srinivasa Gowda, the police superintendent of Bengaluru South, confirmed that a complaint has been received and an initial investigation is underway. He stated, “This will soon be converted into an FIR. Currently, two individuals are in custody.”

The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for March 16. The political atmosphere is tense, with concerns about cross-voting being raised.

For this reason, Congress leadership decided to keep their eight legislators at a resort in Bengaluru to ensure they remain together until voting day, minimizing the influence of other parties.

Party leaders mentioned that this decision was made after internal discussions. The legislators are expected to return to Bhubaneswar just hours before the voting takes place.
