Washington, September 2: The U.S. military launched strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bases in Iran on Tuesday. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that if Tehran retaliates against these attacks, Washington will respond with much greater force.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the social media platform X that at 12 PM local time, American forces began their assault on IRGC positions in Iran. This action follows recent IRGC attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against U.S. troops stationed in the region.
This new wave of attacks comes after an exchange of fire between the U.S. and Iran on Monday night, marking the first direct confrontation between the two nations in over a month.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated, “The U.S. is attacking Iranian positions near the Strait of Hormuz.” He described the strikes as significant and powerful, asserting that they were a response to Iran’s failed attempts to lay sea mines in the Strait and to the firing of eight missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan.
IRGC spokesman Sardar Mohebi warned on X that the U.S. would regret its latest attack on Iran and would face severe consequences.
Additionally, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and the Khatam al-Anbia headquarters issued a statement through Iranian media IRIB, declaring that the military would deliver decisive and lethal blows to the “wicked and brutal enemy” of the U.S.
The statement emphasized, “The more the U.S. terrorist military persists in its evil actions in the region, the greater and heavier losses it will incur.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department has issued a security alert for its citizens in the Middle East, urging them to remain vigilant and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.
