New Delhi, March 4: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has made a significant appeal to Indian leadership, the United Nations, and the international community. They are urging immediate and practical measures to stop the actions being taken against Iran by the United States and Israel.
In a statement released by AIMPLB spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas, the board condemned these aggressive actions and called for an immediate ceasefire. He emphasized that during this extremely sensitive and decisive period, India could play a balanced and dignified mediating role. However, the current stance has adversely affected the credibility of the country’s foreign policy.
The board has requested the UN and the global community to intervene to ensure a ceasefire in the region and prevent West Asia from descending into destructive warfare.
Ilyas noted that there had been significant progress in negotiations between Iran and the U.S. regarding Iran’s nuclear program. According to Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, who has been mediating these talks, Iran had accepted nearly all of the U.S. conditions. Nevertheless, the sudden announcement by the U.S. to end negotiations, followed by a joint attack on Iran in collaboration with Israel, suggests that the talks were merely a pretext rather than serious diplomatic efforts.
Ilyas expressed deep sorrow over the “martyrdom” of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, calling it a significant loss for the Muslim Ummah. He also criticized the lack of an official condolence message from India, stating that it contradicts the country’s moral and diplomatic traditions.
He pointed out that targeting the leadership of a sovereign nation during wartime and openly discussing regime change is a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.
Ilyas warned that this conflict has already plunged the entire West Asia into instability. While several European nations support the U.S., Russia and China stand with Iran.
He cautioned that without immediate and effective diplomatic intervention, this conflict could escalate into a broader global war. A prolonged war would not only exacerbate the humanitarian crisis but also have severe repercussions on the global economy, with developing and vulnerable nations bearing the brunt.
