Lucknow, September 1: The controversy surrounding the leasing of the Jay Prakash Narayan International Center (JP NIC) shows no signs of abating. Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, has once again targeted the Yogi government and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) through a video statement. He raised questions about an LDA report that the government cited to justify its stance on JP NIC, alleging corruption and kickbacks.
In a post on the social media platform X, Yadav highlighted that the LDA’s claim that the BJP government would incur losses amounting to thousands of crores if it managed JP NIC is indeed true. He stated that all earnings would be consumed by corrupt BJP officials and their associates. He further questioned the LDA officials, asking if any businessman would willingly engage in a losing deal, implying that the BJP and its affiliated officials would take commissions while incurring losses.
Yadav emphasized that the public is now asking the LDA how much commission was received for preparing this report. He suggested that the LDA should change its full form to ‘Lucknow Destruction Authority’. The public is curious as to why the Chief Minister and his departments are providing extensive explanations regarding the sale of JP NIC, leading to suspicions of wrongdoing.
It is noteworthy that the political clash between the ruling party and the opposition regarding JP NIC has intensified. This project, which was developed during Akhilesh Yadav’s tenure at a cost of over 800 crores, has not been operational for an extended period. The Yogi government has now decided to lease it to private companies for 30 years to complete the unfinished work and ensure its operation. The government argues that this will facilitate development and revenue generation for the LDA. Conversely, Akhilesh Yadav has criticized this decision as a transfer of public assets into private hands, questioning the entire process.
