Lucknow, June 10: As the Modi government celebrates 12 years in power, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is highlighting its achievements. However, Congress has taken the opportunity to criticize the administration. Ajay Rai, the President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress and a former minister, stated that the BJP’s so-called ‘unmatched’ years will be remembered for rising unemployment, inflation, paper leaks, economic inequality, and institutional decline.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Rai accused the BJP government of celebrating its failures rather than acknowledging its shortcomings. He pointed out that the education and recruitment systems have suffered significantly over the past 12 years. According to him, over 90 competitive exam papers have been leaked nationwide, with more than two dozen recruitment exams in Uttar Pradesh embroiled in controversy.
Rai emphasized that this has jeopardized the futures of millions of young people. He claimed that instead of creating jobs, the government has made people reliant on government rations. He noted that approximately 80 crore citizens are forced to accept free rations, including around 16 crore from Uttar Pradesh. He criticized the government for taking away jobs and replacing them with ration bags.
On the economic front, Rai further criticized the central government, stating that unemployment remains a severe issue, and the promise of creating two crore jobs annually has not been fulfilled. He expressed concern over various indicators of India’s economy and per capita income, suggesting that the benefits of government policies have not reached ordinary citizens.
Rai also targeted the government’s foreign policy, alleging that India’s standing on international platforms has weakened compared to the past. He claimed that the government has failed to demonstrate the necessary strength in protecting national interests. Addressing inflation, Rai pointed out that rising prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG have burdened the common people.
He added that increasing costs of fertilizers and other agricultural products have troubled farmers, while inflation in essential goods has created a serious crisis for the middle class and the poor.
Rai concluded by stating that the central and state ‘double-engine’ governments have failed to address the public’s core issues. He asserted that citizens are seeking answers on employment, education, inflation, and farmers’ interests, but the government is resorting to celebrations and propaganda to evade these pressing questions.
