Noida, February 21: The National Capital Region (NCR) has witnessed an improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) due to strong winds. Areas in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad have reported a decrease in pollution levels, offering residents some much-needed relief.

However, most locations still fall within the ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ categories. In Ghaziabad, all four monitoring stations of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) were active. The AQI readings were 232 in Indirapuram, 268 in Loni, 181 in Sanjay Nagar, and 233 in Vasundhara. Loni recorded the highest pollution levels, nearing the ‘poor’ category, while Sanjay Nagar fared relatively better.

In Noida, AQI levels were recorded at 199 in Sector 125, 164 in Sector 62, 213 in Sector 1, and 194 in Sector 116. Sector 62 had the lowest level, classified as ‘moderate,’ while Sector 1’s reading of 213 indicated a shift towards ‘poor.’ Data from several monitoring stations in Delhi also revealed concerning figures.

In Alipur, the AQI was 189, 244 in Anand Vihar, 224 in Ashok Vihar, 138 in Aaya Nagar, 219 in Bawana, 195 at Burari Crossing, 246 in Chandni Chowk, 161 at CRRI Mathura Road, 211 at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, and 189 at DTU. Among these, Chandni Chowk (246) and Anand Vihar (244) were the most polluted, while Aaya Nagar (138) showed the best air quality.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on February 21 was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 13 degrees. Similar temperatures are expected on February 22. On February 23, a slight increase in maximum temperature to 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 14 degrees is anticipated. Light fog conditions are likely to persist over these three days, with no weather warnings currently issued.

The weather department attributes the improvement in AQI to the dispersal of pollutant particles caused by strong winds. In the coming days, light chill is expected in the mornings and evenings, while bright sunshine is predicted during the day. Currently, there are no indications of significant weather changes, but experts warn that pollution levels may rise again once wind speeds decrease.
