Air Quality Improves in NCR Ahead of Holi Celebrations

Noida, March 4: Significant improvements in air quality have been recorded in the National Capital Region (NCR) just before Holi. Recent data indicates that over 95% of the NCR has entered the ‘yellow zone,’ which signifies moderate air quality, allowing residents to celebrate the festival in relatively cleaner air.

According to figures from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and state pollution control boards, most monitoring stations in Delhi reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) ranging between 150 and 200. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 248, which remains high, while Bawana reported 213.

In Ashok Vihar, the AQI was noted at 171, Chandni Chowk at 172, Burari Crossing at 167, Alipur at 153, and the Cantonment Area at 143. Aya Nagar recorded an AQI of 134, and CRRI Mathura Road reported 143. Most areas maintained an AQI in the ‘moderate’ category, classified as the yellow zone.

In Noida, the situation has also improved. Sector-1 recorded an AQI of 171, Sector-125 at 167, Sector-116 at 163, and Sector-62 at 152. In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram reported 159, Sanjay Nagar at 173, and Vasundhara at 179, while Loni recorded a higher AQI of 224.

The meteorological department predicts clear weather in the coming days, with maximum temperatures expected between 33 to 34 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Wind speeds are forecasted to range from 15 to 25 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 35 kilometers per hour during the day. Currently, no warnings have been issued.

Experts believe that the dispersion of pollutants has improved due to strong winds and clear skies, contributing to better air quality. However, sensitive groups are still advised to exercise caution. This Holi, residents of NCR will have the opportunity to celebrate in relatively better air conditions.

Authorities have also urged the public to celebrate Holi in an environmentally friendly manner to maintain this level of air quality moving forward.
